Yong-en Counselling and Referral Services
This service provides counselling to individuals and families in difficult life situations to enable them to improve their lives. Our counsellors also provide counselling to students in schools. Where more specialised help is required, referral is made to the appropriate agencies or ministries.
The programmes which fall under this arm includes the on-going Thursday Chit-Chat Corner at the coffee shop of Blk 5, Banda Street. Our Director Ms Stephanie Loh and volunteers provide a listening ear to Chinatown residents and help them find ways to cope with problems or crisis.
Our school counsellors are Mr. Freddie Ho and Miss Jasmine Goh. Mr. Ho counsels students from Zhang De Primary School and Gan Eng Seng Secondary School. Miss Goh counsels youths from Gan Eng Seng Secondary and St. Thomas Secondary School.
Family life programmes are also offered by this service arm. This includes seminars for parents on how to relate to their children, emotional and mental health and other related topics.
Information and referral services are provided in areas of financial, legal and welfare aids. Many Chinatown residents have benefitted from these services.
Appropriately, family life education are also conducted for the community. Whilst festive and seasonal activities serve to promote community spirit and neighbourliness.
