YONG-EN CARE CENTRE
Touching the hearts and lives of people in Chinatown and beyond
The beginning . . . . . .
In March 1996 when the church leadership met to discuss the FAIRFIELD VISION 2001, the Rev Dr Clarence Lim challenged the church leaders and staff to enhance Fairfields mission not only "across the seas" but also "across the streets" by establishing a community care centre in Chinatown. In accepting the challenge, the church leadership assigned the Committee on Christian Social Concerns and the Pastor-in-Charge to study and work on the possibility of establishing this community care centre. Following the closure of the Grace Care Centre, the Protem committee of the proposed Yong-en Care Centre met with the leaders of Fairfield Methodist Church. Fairfields interest was expressed through the Chairman of the Committee on Christian Social Concerns, Mr Albert Lim, where he was present at the first Protem Meeting of the proposed Yong-en Centre held on 20 August 1996 at the Alumni Association Medical Centre. Further consultation and discussions were made between Fairfield church leaders, representatives and advisors of the Pro-tem Committee of the prosposed Yong-en Care Centre. In October the same year, the Local Church Executive Committee officially adopted Yong-en Care Centre as the community care service of Fairfield.
The Centre . . . . . . .
As a non-profit voluntary welfare, Yong-en Care Centre (YCC) was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies on 4 September 1996 and gazetted in the Singapore Government Gazette on 20 September 1996 vide Notification Number 3253.
Mr Albert Lim was elected the President of the first Management Committee at the Inaugural Meeting on 1 November 1996. Also on the same day, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Fairfield Methodist Church and the Yong-en Care Centre. This MOU was necessary at that transitional stage of integrating YCC into Fairfield life as a number of the founding members were from other churches and denominations. It also demonstrated Fairfields commitment to and involvement in Chinatown community and beyond. Thus, a new chapter of Fairfields history began in realising the vision of touching hearts and lives of people in Chinatown and beyond. As a Lay Ministry Staff of Fairfield, Miss Stephanie Loh was appointed in October 1996 to serve as Director of YCC. While searching for a permanent location for YCC, a leased premise at 49B and 51B Kreta Ayer Road was leased for nine months to house the centres activities.

Yong-en Care Centre seeks to demonstrate Gods love by providing value-added community based services and support focussed on the needs of individuals and families regardless of race, language or religion in Chinatown and beyond.
YCC is committed to provide a range of caring and value-added services to the community and to enhance the well-being and welfare of the less-fortunate and needy.
As implied in the FMCs Mission Statement and Ministry Pillars of Vision 2001, the mission strategy of YCC is to be:

The New Home . . . . . . . .
After the leased premises expired, YCC moved to the church premises to continue her work. Through the help and support of the Member of Parliament for Kreta Ayer/Tanglin GRC, Dr Richard Hu, we have been given the void deck of Block 335A, Smith Street as our permanent premises for YCC. We are in the final stage of awaiting approval from the various authorities to endorse our plan to construct the centre.
