Yong-en Volunteer Development
Volunteer Development is the first Core Service that Yong-en offers. We seek to develop a caring and cohesive community by promoting citizenship participation through community work and volunteer development. Yong-en enlists, equips and engages volunteers to render volunteer services on a regular basis. We also aim to involve secondary school students to render community services through Yong-en. Interested persons will be made aware of the various Yong-en services and trained/ equipped to render volunteer services in the Yong-en programmes. Volunteer Development is placed strategically in the centre of the circle to emphasize its importance and Yong-en’s commitment to working with, training and developing volunteers. Yong-en Health Services, Home Help as well as Kids and Teens depend greatly on volunteers to run our programmes and to help our clients. Volunteer Development under girds all our services and we seek to channel volunteers to the areas of service which they are interested in.
In 1998, students from Gan Eng Seng Secondary School conducted a Health Survey in Blk 5, Banda Street in conjunction with Yong-en for their school’s Community Involvement Project. Under the guidance and supervision of Yong-en’s Director Ms Stephanie Loh, our Counsellor Mr. Freddie Ho and a teacher from their school, the students visited the elderly residents and carried out the survey to find out what medical help they require.
