Yong-en Kids and Teens
The main focus of this service is a tuition programme provided by teacher-volunteers to help both primary and secondary students. Volunteers also provide guidance and friendship to these students to adjust and fit into society. During school vacations, youth-initiated programmes serve to meet the educational, emotional and social needs of children in the community.
In 1998, we had a total of 12 teacher-volunteers and 25 to 30 students. Classes were mostly conducted on Thursday nights in classrooms in Fairfield Methodist Church, with some lessons scheduled at other times as some of our volunteers had shift work.
During the June and December holidays, Miss Jasmine Goh with the help of volunteers conducted holiday enrichment programmes for students from Zhang De Primary School and children staying in the neighbourhood of Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar.
